The SES discussed areas of cooperation between the Ukrainian Rescue Service and the International Committee of the Red Cross
On February 1, a delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross paid a working visit to the SES, during which the parties discussed a number of urgent issues regarding cooperation.
Welcoming the audience, Acting Chairman of the SES of Ukraine Serhiy Kruk thanked foreign partners for assistance in the work of the Rescue Service.
“We appreciate the active position and contribution of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Cross Society of Ukraine in protecting our citizens during the armed conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts and are grateful for technical assistance for humanitarian demining and medical equipment , creation and equipment of modern training classes for pyrotechnic units of the SES, etc.”, - said Serhiy Kruk.
In turn, the Head of the ICRC Delegation in Ukraine Florence Gillette expressed readiness to continue cooperation in those aspects in which it has been going on for several years.
At the same time, according to Florence Gillette, the main task of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine is to prevent and mitigate the consequences of negative situations in the east.
During the event, the parties discussed current areas of cooperation, namely: issues of armed danger and mine action; responding to emergencies involving radioactive substances and hazardous chemicals; measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to the potential cooperation of the SES with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in case of escalation.
"Our cooperation is very important, especially for the safety of citizens in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, where the situation is very tense. I hope that in the near future there will be a peaceful sky on the whole territory of Ukraine”, - Serhiy Kruk concluded.
