The State Emergency Service of Ukraine held command-post exercise within the framework of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine conducted a command-post exercise in order to practice the procedure for deploying the Heavy Urban Search and Rescue module (HUSAR) to provide assistance in emergency response in the territory of foreign countries under UCPM.

The exercise was conducted at the State Emergency Management Center and the Mobile Rescue Center of Rapid Response of the SES of Ukraine with the participation of all structural units of the SESU.

According to the scenario, a major earthquake of 6.4 M and 3 aftershocks with a magnitude of more than 5 took place in one of the European countries. As a result, 1247 people died and more than 4,000 were taken to the hospital with severe injuries, more than 1,000 people were displaced and about 2,500 people were evacuated.

During the exercise, the theoretical and practical part of the SESU actions was practiced in stages, in accordance with the developed algorithms, from the moment of receiving a request for assistance for earthquake response from the ERCC to making decisions on the engagement of HUSAR module, preparing the necessary documents and deploying forces and means to provide assistance.

In its turn, the heavy class team of the MRC of the SESU has practically demonstrated its readiness to respond promptly to the emergency situation to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake.

According to Deputy Head of the SESU Volodymyr Demchuk, Ukrainian rescuers are closely preparing to respond to emergencies at the international level within the framework of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism: "We will work out an algorithm of actions during providing assistance to all EU countries in order to be ready for search and rescue operations of any complexity."
